What travertine paver installation involves

Travertine is a natural limestone quarried from mineral springs, typically imported from Turkey or Peru in “French pattern” sets, 6x12s, or large-format 16×24 tiles. Standard Florida installations use a tumbled or brushed finish (never polished) to keep the surface slip-resistant when wet.

Our travertine installation process

2. Stone selection and written quote. You choose the color blend — Ivory, Walnut, Silver, Country Classic — and we deliver a line-item quote with square footage, base spec, and sealer options.

4. Base build. Crushed limerock is placed in lifts, compacted with a plate compactor, and screeded flat with a slight pitch away from the house or pool.

FAQ

Does travertine really stay cooler than concrete or standard pavers in Florida sun?
Yes — the natural porosity of travertine reflects heat rather than storing it. On a 90°F Tampa afternoon it’s noticeably more comfortable underfoot than concrete pavers or stamped concrete, which is why it’s the go-to choice for pool decks.

Will travertine get slippery around my pool?
Not if you choose the right finish. Tumbled and brushed travertine has natural micro-texture that grips wet feet well. We do not recommend polished travertine for exterior Florida installs.

What about efflorescence — the white haze I’ve seen on new stone?
Efflorescence is mineral salts migrating to the surface as the stone and base release moisture. It’s normal on new natural stone and it clears over time. We time sealing to happen after the initial release, which prevents haze from being locked in. If it’s already there, our restoration crew can remove it.

Can travertine be used for a driveway, or only pool decks and patios?
Travertine can be used on driveways, but the base spec and stone thickness must be upgraded to handle vehicle loads. We’ll size the assembly to your driveway’s use — daily-driver sedan versus dual-axle truck matters.

How does travertine hold up in hurricane season and heavy rain?
