Walk your Clearwater driveway or pool deck after a summer of afternoon downpours and you’ll see what the rainy season does: joint sand washed into low spots, weeds pushing up through open seams, a few pavers rocking underfoot, and a wavy dip where the base has shifted. Add salt air off the Gulf and the deterioration moves faster here than it does inland. Paver Rescue LLC repairs and resands brick and travertine hardscapes throughout Clearwater and Pinellas County — resetting the pavers, refilling the joints, and locking everything back down.

What paver repair and resanding involves

Joint sand is structural. It’s what transfers load from one paver to the next and keeps the field interlocked. When Clearwater’s rainy season runoff, pressure washing, or years of humidity strip that sand out, the pavers begin to shift independently — which is when you get rocking units, spreading joints, weed growth, and ant colonies tunneling under the surface.

Repair starts with the base, not the surface. We lift the affected pavers, inspect the bedding sand and compacted base underneath, and correct the cause: a low spot from a downspout, a settled trench over a utility run, a root, or an area that was never properly compacted. The base gets re-graded and re-compacted, pavers are reset to level, and any cracked or spalled units are swapped out with matching replacements where available.

Resanding follows. The full surface is deep pressure cleaned to pull out dirt, mold, and mildew, then joints are refilled with fresh sand, swept in, and settled so the seams are full to the chamfer. On travertine we adjust the approach — the material is softer and more porous than brick, so cleaning and sanding are handled accordingly. Most Clearwater jobs finish with a minimum of two coats of professional-grade water-based sealer to hold the sand in place and protect against staining and fading.

Why Paver Rescue for paver repair and resanding in Clearwater

  • Seal ‘n Lock Certified — certified to clean, sand, and seal in one day, so your driveway or pool deck isn’t out of commission for a week.
  • Base-level repairs, not cosmetic patching — sunken and rocking pavers are lifted and the bedding corrected, because refilling sand over a failing base just buys you a season.
  • Brick and travertine both — we clean, sand, and seal travertine as well as concrete brick pavers, which matters on the pool decks and lanais common across Clearwater and the beaches.
  • Water-based sealants with a mold and algae inhibitor — UV protection, weed-growth inhibition, and a formula that won’t harm surrounding vegetation or landscaping.
  • Florida-climate scheduling — work is planned around the drying window, since sealer applied ahead of an afternoon storm is sealer that hazes.
  • 5.0-star Google rating across 369 reviews from Tampa Bay homeowners, with owner Lucas involved on the jobs.

Our paver repair and resanding process

  1. Free on-site estimate. We walk the driveway, patio, or pool deck, identify what’s causing the settling or sand loss, and measure the area. Estimates are free and scheduled by phone.
  2. Small repairs first. Damaged, cracked, or sunken pavers are lifted and reset; the base beneath is re-graded and compacted, and unsalvageable units are replaced.
  3. Deep pressure cleaning. The entire surface is cleaned to remove embedded dirt, mold, and mildew — a step Clearwater’s humidity makes non-negotiable before any sand or sealer goes down.
  4. Dry-out period. Pavers must be fully dry before sanding, or the sand cakes and the sealer traps moisture. We watch the weather, not the calendar.
  5. Resanding. Fresh joint sand is swept and settled into every seam until the joints are full and the field is interlocked again.
  6. Sealing. A minimum of two coats of water-based sealer locks the sand, enhances the paver color, and shields against stains, fading, and organic growth. Non-slip grip can be added on pool deck surfaces.
  7. Final walkthrough. We check edges, transitions, and drainage points with you before the site is cleared.

What paver repair and resanding typically costs

Pricing is calculated per square foot and quoted after we see the surface, because two Clearwater driveways of identical size can require very different work. Estimates range based on total area, how many pavers need lifting and resetting, whether the base has failed in isolated spots or across a broad section, the amount of joint sand that has to be replaced, the condition of the existing surface, and whether the material is brick or travertine. Heavy mold, rust staining, oil, or a failing old sealer that has to be addressed will push a quote up. Straightforward resanding and sealing on a well-drained surface sits at the lower end.

Our quotes cover repair, cleaning, resanding, and a minimum of two sealer coats. Extensive base rebuilding or large-scale paver replacement is priced separately and discussed before any work begins. We accept all credit cards, and there is currently $50 off paver sealing. If you’re weighing repair against a full replacement, our Clearwater paver contractor services page covers the wider range of options.

FAQ

How often do pavers need to be resanded in Florida?
It depends on drainage and whether the surface is sealed. Sealed joints in Clearwater typically hold sand for several years; unsealed joints can lose noticeable sand in a single rainy season, especially on sloped driveways and around pool deck drains.

Why do weeds keep coming up between my pavers?
Open, under-filled joints let seeds settle and germinate. Refilling the seams and sealing them removes the growing medium — our sealants also inhibit weed growth without harming nearby landscaping.

Can you fix just a few sunken pavers, or does the whole driveway have to be redone?
Isolated settling is usually a localized base problem and can be repaired on its own. We lift, correct the base, and reset. Widespread waviness across the field points to a broader base issue, which we’ll flag at the estimate. Our paver restoration and repair work covers both scenarios.

Do you work on travertine pool decks?
Yes. Travertine is softer and more porous than concrete pavers, so cleaning pressure, sand type, and sealer application all change. We also offer non-slip grip treatment on pool deck sealing and repair projects.

How long before I can drive or walk on it?
As a Seal ‘n Lock Certified crew, we clean, sand, and seal in one day. Cure times depend on humidity and temperature — we’ll give you specific timing for foot traffic and vehicles before we leave.

Does salt air near the Gulf affect pavers?
Yes. Coastal Clearwater properties see faster surface wear and more efflorescence. Sealing after resanding is the practical defense.
